By Takako Kaida Tokyo, June 30 (Jiji Press)--The Group of Eight rich countries are expected to agree on a comprehensive aid package for impoverished African nations as well as on a set of practical measures to fight climate change at their summit meeting that will start in Gleneagles, Scotland, on Wednesday.
Putting Africa and climate change at the heart of the three-day summit's agenda, Britain, as the chair country, has been vigorously persuading its G-8 partners to make bold joint efforts to tackle these two issues that require global solutions.
The G-8 leaders are also seen hammering out measures to address the problem of highflying crude oil prices. On the global security front, they will aim to send out a strong message on North Korea's nuclear development, as the communist country has been keeping six-way talks on the problem stalled for a year.
