President Gloria Arroyo is now besieged by "people power", a trademark Philippine democratic system which she herself helped establish 20 years ago when she was not yet in government.

If she succeeds in escaping the wrath of the opposition coalition that continues to claim that she cheated in the 2004 polls, and that her family members have been protecting illegal gambling dons, it could very well enhance her political savvy.
