NOW that the "Crimean War" has quietened down somewhat, maybe it is time to reflect on the lessons learnt and contemplate what's next. Interestingly, almost at the same time when the issue of accessibility versus quality doctors was being heatedly debated, there was a report of doctors facing "racial abuse" in Australia (NST, June 18). An Australian source reported that patients were refusing to be treated by foreign-trained doctors because of a scandal surrounding one such doctor, Jayant Patel, who has been linked to "scores of deaths".
