THE former fiancee of a convicted gun smuggler said yesterday that she was used by the father of her child in a plot to send arms from America to Northern Ireland. Patricia O'Kane, 28, denies sending thousands of pounds to a gun-smuggling ring in the US between January and July, 1999. Irishman Martin Mullan, 34, the father of O'Kane's 11-year-old son, was jailed along with three others in Florida in September, 2000, for arms smuggling. Belfast Crown Court heard that O'Kane had deposited pounds 8,000 into her fiance's Co Antrim bank account just days before she was due to fly to Philadelphia to start a new life with him and their son.
