NHS Scotland Knowledge Services in Edinburgh is to offer 5,000 e-books to Scottish healthcare professionals, all licensed from OCLC's NetLibrary eBook service.
Staff and students working and training with NHS Scotland will be the main users of the service, which will also be available to the Scottish Executive, local authority staff involved in delivery of health services, and health care staff in the prison service, nursing homes, armed forces and others. In addition to the licensed e-books, users will be able to access 3,800 public domain medical titles.
Dr Ann Wales, NHS Scotland knowledge services co-ordinator, told IWR that NHS Scotland had opted for such a big deal in order to offer an equivalent to the physical library for remote health professionals.
