How softly the great feathery boughs of the firs waved and murmured over her.--Rilla of Ingleside

Dear Kindred Spirits,

There are so many old time phrases in the LM Montgomery books that if you ponder them over make sense, and probably more sense than if said plainly.

But she mentions the heavenly scent of dying fir and the medicinal properties of Mexican tea--haven't found anything about them, even by cross referencing in books of flora. Could you give me insight into those two things?
