Aunt Olivia's wedding cake 
was said to be the best one of its land 
ever tasted in Carlisle. 
 
4 1/2 cups sifted flour 
3/4 cup cocoa 
3/4 tsp. baking powder 
1/3 tsp. salt 
1 1/2 cups butter 
3/4 cup shortening 
4 1/2 cups sugar 
8 eggs 
1 2/3 cup milk 
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla 
3 tbsp. grated chocolate 
 
1. Sift flour, cocoa, baking powder & salt. 
 
2. Cream shortening, butter, sugar & eggs. 
 
3. Alternate flour mixture, milk, vanilla & 
grated chocolate with creamed 
mixture. 
 
4. Bake in a high sided 8 inch round cake 
pan at 300[degrees]F. for 1 1/2 hours. 
 
Icing: 
 
1/2 lb. soft vegetable shortening 
1/8 cup milk 
2-2 1/2 cups sifted icing sugar 
1 tsp. vanilla flavouring
