That was close. For a minute there, it looked as though the House was going to cut $100 million from a $400 million subsidy bill for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Then cooler heads--and the moldy oldie "Save Big Bird" appeal--prevailed, and the threatened funds were restored. Big Bird will get his subsidy.
