The Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove has been marked in the Unesco World Heritage List, bringing Nigeria's cultural sites in the list to two. The inscription was done at the 29th session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) meeting held in Durban, South Africa, from July 10 to 17, 2005.

In a statement, Minister of Culture and Tourism, Ambassador Franklin Ogbuewu, remarked that the "modern wonder" has found its rightful place in the global list of heritage sites.
