Revolver herbicide has received registration for use in California. Many California golf course superintendents recently attended meetings to learn more about the product's fit in overseeding programs and effectiveness for weed control. Revolver is a postemergent herbicide that selectively removes cool-season grasses from warm-season grasses.

Managing the transition from one grass type to another in the spring presents unique problems for California superintendents, particularly those with courses in the coastal climatic zone. Wendy Gelernter, Ph.D., research director at the PACE Turfgrass Research Institute (PTRI), presented research and suggested protocols for overseeding to 34 superintendents and distributors at an April 5 seminar at Vista Valley Country Club in Vista and at an April 6 meeting at Coyote Hills Golf Club in Fullerton where 40 superintendents gathered.

Ron Nolf, golf course superintendent at Vista Valley, hosted the first meeting, while Elliot Weber was the superintendent host at the Coyote Hills meeting. Chris Olsen, Bayer Environmental Science development representative for California, presented a technical overview of research trials conducted with Revolver on California golf courses.
