These are some of the most asked questions of those that serve on the board of the State Association. Other than the State Conference and the hospitality night at the Golf Industry Show, most don't know what the function of the state association is.
Founded in 1964, the California GCSA (formerly known as the Federation) was organized to forma voting block of the California Golf Course Superintendents Associations to leverage the large number of votes within those associations. It has since evolved into an Association that works in partnership with the six regional state associations on issues that pertain to the mutual goals of all the associations.
Beyond to the two functions mentioned above, the state association is the voice for all of the chapters on many of the legislative and environmental issues that come up in the state. Recent issues that come to mind include a possible pesticide posting notice bill and multiple bills regarding the use of water. Through our legislative network we were able to provide a voice for all golf course superintendents on these important issues that affect every golf course in California. In addition to the legislative efforts, the state association provides a number of other services to each association and its members. One of those is our very own website @www.californiagcsa.org.
