Jul. 21--The condo war across from City Hall is taking a new turn.
Craig Spencer - co-owner with rock star Jon Bon Jovi of the Philadelphia Soul arena football team - says he has given up on plans for a 57-story condominium skyscraper.
He will settle for 44 floors.
This, he noted, is the limit in the city zoning code. By scaling back, he is making an end run around the owner of an adjacent property with whom he has been feuding for years.
The building will be called "the Residences at the Ritz-Carlton," named after the adjacent luxury hotel that he also owns. It would be built on the former One Meridian Plaza site, where the city's worst high-rise fire killed three firefighters in 1991.
Construction will start in October, Spencer said. "This project is full go."
