Jul. 20--When the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City completes the first phase of a $500 million expansion next year, its biggest problem might be filling several hundred new jobs.
The positions range from cooks and waitresses to bar maids and dancers to staff the casino's new restaurants, retail stores and nightclubs.
"We can't fill all the jobs," said chief executive officer Robert Boughner, who, despite having a robust outlook for the economy, expressed reservations about having enough workers to meet the demand.
Boughner was among a panel of executives who assessed the regional economy yesterday at a forum sponsored by the Rutgers University School of Business in Camden.
Mark Baiada, founder and president of Moorestown-based Bayada Nurses, Inc., said the hiring outlook for his industry was even more challenging.
"This is the longest and most severe," Baiada said of the nursing shortage. "Demand for our services is growing."
