THE weekend will get off to a flying start today as five new European air routes take off from Belfast International Airport.
The new routes to Rome, Inverness, Geneva, Berlin, and Palma will be operated by low-cost carrier easyJet, supporting over 30 jobs at the airport.
The GovernmentOs Air Route Development Fund, which seeks to encourage the development of new routes by providing investment support to airports, has backed the Rome, Berlin and Geneva routes.
Enterprise Minister Angela Smith said the new services are a boost for business and tourism.
OWith the introduction of these additional routes we can clearly say that Northern Ireland has developed into a major international base for one of the premier operators in the low-cost air transport sector,O she said.
