MANUFACTURING exports from Northern Ireland have more than doubled in the past decade despite the near disappearance of the textile industry and other manufacturers.
Total manufacturing exports in 2003-04 stood at almost pounds 2.5 billion.
The Northern Ireland Economic Bulletin showed that despite a decline in manufacturing jobs over the year of 3.3 per cent, output continued to grow ETH 2.3 per cent ETH and at a much faster rate than that for the UK as a whole ETH 0.6 per cent.
Indeed, Northern IrelandOs most recent overall economic growth ETH six per cent ETH was above the UK average of 5.4 per cent and put it in second place in the UK regions.
Welcoming the publication, Enterprise Minister Angela Smith said it confirmed positive signs on the performance of the economy and made clear the region was in a transition period.
She said the bulletin got below the headline figures and examined recent performance across a number of key economic sectors.
