Prodigals @ Old Museum Arts Centre, Belfast
PRODIGALS is a grim portrait of a dark and dysfunctional family. Writer/director Patrick G Hughes from Dungannon made a brave decision last weekend to bring his play to BelfastOs Old Museum Arts Centre to air what he himself acknowledges is a work in progress. The writer is studying English at QueenOs University and it was while he was working on his MA that he wrote a few scenes of The Prodigal. Accepted by OMAC for their One Night Stand showcase, he set the scene with three actors, no set and no props.
The current script details the grief of a motherOs death, the effects of alcoholism on an abused family and a constant longing for the OprodigalO brother to return to the fold. When he eventually does, it brings unexpected and hideous repercussions.
