THERE was uproar in a Belfast court yesterday as a former associate of Johnny OMad DogO Adair was cleared of murder.

The family of murdered loyalist feud victim Jonathan Stewart banged the glass in the public gallery and shouted threats to Wayne Stephen Dowie, 25, as he was cleared of the 22-year-oldOs murder.

Mr Justice McLaughlin told the cityOs Crown Court that the prosecution evidence was Oso weakO he could find Ono reliable foundationO to convict him.

As he announced his not guilty verdict, Mr StewartOs family jumped to their feet and security staff blocked the doors leading into the court.

Dowie, from Manor Street in north Belfast, had always denied murdering Mr Stewart on December 27, 2002, during the bitter and bloody feud between mainstream UDA and AdairOs breakaway C Company.

Mr Stewart was shot seven times, five times in the head, from near point blank range by a masked gunman as he sat at the kitchen table during a party in a house in Manor Street. Dowie was picked out of a masked police line-up some seven months after the murder.
