AMBITIOUS redevelopment plans for the site of the former Maze prison are to be considered by a cross-party group, it was announced yesterday.
Among the proposals in the pipeline for the Lisburn site is a pounds 55 million sports stadium and an International Centre for Conflict Transformation.
Northern Ireland Office minister Jeff Rooker said he hoped to have a regeneration plan in place for the site by the autumn.
Announcing the formation of the Maze/Long Kesh Monitoring Group, Mr Rooker said: OThis is a vital component in the consideration of this potentially massive regeneration project.
