SIR Reg Empey yesterday made his first official appointment as Ulster Unionist Party chief, announcing MLA Danny Kennedy has become his deputy leader at the Assembly.
As first revealed in last weekOs News Letter, the Newry and Armagh representative will effectively become the leaderOs number two and right hand man.
Mr Kennedy, 46, from Bessbrook, Co Armagh, said he was Odelighted and honouredO.
Sir Reg said: OI am confident that Danny has the necessary skills and experience to make a valuable contribution to our Assembly party.
OHe will be given specific responsibilities with regard to the delivery of service by our Assembly members throughout the Province.O
Mr Kennedy said: OReg and I have known each other for a considerable period of time. We entered local government together in 1985.
