THE Government has been challenged to justify the continued payment of salaries to the 24 Sinn Fein MLAs at Stormont.
Ulster Unionist MP Lady Sylvia Hermon has called Sinn FeinOs Assembly wage bill into question, in the wake of the recommendations of the Independent Monitoring Commission (IMC) to impose Oappropriate financial penaltiesO on the party, including the possible withdrawal of their MLA salaries.
Speaking during the latest Northern Ireland Grand Committee meeting at Westminster, the North Down MP called upon NIO Minister Angela Smith to explain why the Secretary of State had failed to follow this course of action.
