MURDER victim Robert McCartney was followed up an alleyway by eight or nine men who all seemed to be carrying weapons, the High Court heard yesterday.
A Crown lawyer said a witness had told police that Mr McCartney was accompanied by his friend Brendan Devine who had been attacked minutes earlier in MagennisOs bar in May Street, Belfast.
The moments before Mr McCartney was stabbed and beaten to death were revealed during bail applications by Terence Davison, 49, from Stanfield Place in the Markets area of Belfast, and James McCormick, 36, also from Belfast, whose address was given as Victoria Road, Stechford, Birmingham.
Davison is accused of murdering Mr McCartney and McCormick with attempting to murder Mr Devine. Both deny the charges.
Crown lawyer Gordon Kerr, QC, said the evidence about the men being followed into the alleyway was in a statement made by a man known as OEO.
