HISTORY will be made in east Belfast tonight when an independent Orange lodge joins the Somme commemoration parade for the first time.
The Pride of Ballymacarrett Purple Star ILOL No 6 will join Orangemen from Ballymacarrett district for the parade which forms part of the Mini Twelfth.
Lodge secretary, the Rev Robert McEvoy, said: OWe sought permission from the brethren in Ballymacarrett district and it was kindly granted.
OThis important, symbolic and practical development illustrates the extent to which relationships between the two institutions are steadily improving.
OIt is hoped that Friday evening will lead to many more occasions when brethren from the two Institutions can come together to celebrate and promote their Orange and Protestant heritage.O
