EIGHT Co Fermanagh police stations earmarked for closure have been given a stay of execution following a narrow vote at the Northern Ireland Policing Board yesterday.
No final decisions will be taken on the future of Rosslea, Ballinamallard, Newtownbutler, Tempo, Irvinestown, Kinawley, Derrygonnelly and Lisbellaw stations until a Oproper consultationO process is completed in September.
A motion supported by the DUPOs Ian Paisley Jnr, William Hay and Sammy Wilson and the UUPOs Sam Foster and Fred Cobain, proposed delaying any decision until there has been consultation with public representatives, district policing partnerships and police chiefs.
However, attempts to save nine stations in other rural parts of the Province failed and many of them now seem certain to close.
