TWO former BarnardoOs workers who were jailed for sex offences against young people walked free from a Belfast court yesterday.
Margaret Hewitt, 70, and George Anderson, 47, had their convictions quashed after one of their alleged victims admitted to lying at their original trial.
However, the pair may have to stand trial again.
In the meantime, they were released on bail and soon afterwards walked out of the Court of Appeal in Belfast.
Anderson, who used to live at Hillhead Road, Ballycarry, Co Antrim, had been jailed for 18 years, and Hewitt for 11 years. She formerly lived at DrainOs Bay, Larne.
During their three-week appeal, one alleged victim said he had lied at the original trial and claimed other witnesses had also lied.
