A 5.6%/y increase in production of plastic caps and closures is forecast by AMI Consulting over the next five years. Production of metal caps is expected to decline by 3%/y. In 2004, 39.8% of caps and closures in Western Europe were plastic with 57.8% being metal. Plastics are expected to account for 49.8% by 2009 with metal accounting for 48.1%. In 2004, 60% of plastic closures were manufactured by the 10 leading companies, with nearly 75% being made by the top 25 companies in the sector. Over the next five years, it is forecast that up to 200 companies could cease production of closures ...
