Excerpt from interview with Israeli Defence Minister Shaul Mufaz by Nisim Mishal on the weekly "Hot Mishal" talk show, recorded in the studio "a short time ago", broadcast by Israeli Channel 2 TV on 13 July

[Passage omitted] [Mishal] The prime minister and yourself made the decision to seal off the Gaza Strip and I would like to ask you: Why today? What happened?

[Mufaz] The decision to seal off the Strip was made because inhabitants have been added to the Strip, close to 1,000 inhabitants have been added to the Strip and the Qatif Bloc. This decision is intended to help the IDF [Israel Defence Forces] and police forces evacuate those who will not leave voluntarily. …
