A village defence volunteer and three other villagers were shot dead in Pattani province and three other seriously wounded in Narathiwat yesterday.

Piboon Sirirat, 54, a village defence volunteer, was attacked on Yarang-Yala road while returning from a local market. A motorcycle pillion rider opened fire, hitting Mr Piboon in the chest and neck. He died on the spot.

Akhom Intharaphet, 25, a shrimp farm worker, was attacked in Yaring district's tambon [sub-district] Talorkapho by two gunmen on a motorcycle. He died …
