Jul. 14--About 230 union painters are back at work in the Fresno area after ending a strike late last week.
But a separate union representing about 100 area plasterers and masons is still striking, as negotiators on Wednesday tried to reach a temporary agreement.
The painters union ratified a new contract last Thursday. By Tuesday, most workers were back on the job, said Mark Saleh, a negotiator for the Fresno chapter of the Painting & Decorating Contractors of America. The association represents about 10 area contractors.
"I think everybody's happy," Saleh said.
Union representative Bob Rash could not be reached to comment late Wednesday.
The new deal calls for a $6 raise over three years, Saleh said. The total value equals the amount originally offered by business owners. But the negotiated contract calls for workers to get more of the money in the first two years of the deal, Saleh said.
