Jul. 13--After more than 500 complaints and almost two years of investigations, state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is suing Norwalk-based Trilegiant for allegedly tricking consumers into joining discount travel and retail clubs and making it difficult to cancel them.
"Trilegiant is a club that deserves no members -- tricking consumers with so-called reward checks and then hitting them with automatic renewal fees," Blumenthal said.
If Blumenthal wins the suit, filed Tuesday in Superior Court in Hartford, Trilegiant could pay $5,000 for each violation and restitution to customers. The state Department of Consumer ...
