In these days of frippery and idiocy on our nation's campuses it's nice to know that there remain a few genuine scholars still interested in such quaint notions as the spirit of disinterested, unpoliticized inquiry. One such is William Kelso, the director of archeology at the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. He recently discovered the skeleton of a 17th-century naval captain at the presumed site of Virginia's Jamestown.
