Who is MD4Bush? Last fall, someone using that screen name engaged Joseph Steffen in a series of private e-mails through the conservative forum Free Republic.com. MD4Bush tried to get Steffen, a Maryland state employee with ties to Gov. Bob Erlich, to discuss rumors about Baltimore mayor Martin O'Malley, who is considering running against Ehrlich in 2006. Steffen was reluctant: "I cannot and will not offer suggestions that may be considered unethical concerning what you should do, campaign-wise.
