Congress is about to miss a deadline. The World Trade Organization gave America until July 1 to end our export subsidies for cotton farmers. If we don't, the government of Brazil will be able to ask the WTO for permission to levy retaliatory sanctions on American exporters. Since we spend $2.6 billion a year on cotton subsidies, Brazil would be allowed $2.6 billion in retaliatory tariffs. Congress should not allow this to happen. U.S. exporters are still recovering ...
