Jul. 5--Encouraged by the success of its Lipovitan D energy-drink brand, Taisho Pharmaceutical Co has named Thailand as its operational hub for new medicine products in Southeast Asia.

The Japanese pharmaceutical firm is in the process of spending 500 million baht to expand its pharmaceutical business in East and Southeast Asia until 2006, according to president Akira Uehara who visited Thailand on Sunday.

Of the total outlay, about 200 million baht will be spent on research and development and distribution and marketing in Thailand.
