Jul. 5--The government said yesterday that it would continue to subsidise cooking gas prices until at least the end of the year, reversing plans to quickly free the market this month.
Energy Minister Viset Choopiban said the cost of pumping natural gas from the Gulf of Thailand for processing into liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), used for cooking and in some vehicles, had not changed markedly. Since the biggest single customers for the gas were taxis, there was no need to end the subsidy, he said.
