Jul. 5--Internet congestion
Private operators should be allowed to set up international gateways to accommodate heavy Internet traffic as the existing CAT Telecom capacity is strained, says True Corporation vice-chairman Athueck Asvanont.
Mr Athueck has called on the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to permit private operators to offer the expanded service. He said the existing capacity of 4 Gigabytes could not accommodate all Internet traffic, which has been growing at 10 percent a year.
According to Mr Athueck, service outages on the CAT gateway totalled 100 hours in the first half of this year, compared with 60 hours for all of last year.
