Nina Vaca is a myth buster, especially when it comes to the stereotype that Latinos lack English proficiency or other skills needed to succeed as small-business owners.
"Those days are way over," said Vaca, the president and CEO of Pinnacle Technical Resources.
Her Dallas-based business, which began with a tiny knot of employees, is no longer small, boasting more than $30 million in revenue. The company, which provides information technology outsourcing, consulting and staffing services, now has 400 employees in 19 U.S. cities. Her clients include Verizon and Citigroup.
"We're on track to make $50 million this year, and I think we'll nail it," she said.
The daughter of Ecuadorean immigrants represents a new breed of Latino entrepreneur.
Vaca's only 34 years old and already owns serious trophies. She was named National Hispanic Business Woman of the Year for 2003 and 2004 by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
