House worried about China bid
Saying the offer by a Chinese state-owned oil company to buy Calif.-based Unocal could threaten national security, lawmakers voted 398-15 to ask President Bush to make a thorough review of the merger if it goes through. China's CNOOC has offered to pay $18.5 bil in cash to buy Unocal, trumping an earlier offer by Calif.-based Chevron. CNOOC has said it's eager to talk to lawmakers about the bid. CNOOC rose 2.5%, Unocal climbed 1% and Chevron rose 2%.
