Microsoft to pay IBM $875 mil

IBM will get $775 mil in cash and $75 mil in software credits from the software giant to settle claims stemming from a U.S. antitrust case vs. Microsoft. When a federal judge in '00 ruled Microsoft engaged in anti-competitive practices to make its Windows operating systems dominant, he noted Microsoft had applied "discriminatory treatment" to IBM. Microsoft faces other similar legal challenges seeking payouts, such as a suit by RealNetworks. IBM rose 0.5% to 74.67. Microsoft fell 0.5% to 24.71.
