The Nasdaq Thursday fell sharply on heavier volume, losing 0.6% while the Nasdaq 100 gave up 0.7% to close back below its 50-day moving average.
Internet Security Systems fell 83 cents to 20.29, below its practically conjoined 50- and 200-day moving averages. The maker of anti-intruder equipment for computer networks has been forming a base since early December, correcting as much as 36%.
American Eagle Outfitters, a leader in apparel retailing, fell 1.17 to 30.64 after UBS initiated coverage with a reduce rating. Intraday, the stock traded as low as 29.55, below the 30.55 buy point from a cup-without-handle pattern the stock cleared June 7 on light volume.
