Dow industrials finished Thursday's session 1% lower while the S&P 500 dropped 0.7%. Volume was higher.
The Federal Open Market Committee's interest rate hike spurred an afternoon of downside action.
WellCare Health Plans saw volume climb tenfold, but the price range remained narrow. The stock finished 0.74 lower at 35.51. The managed care firm priced a secondary issue of 6.5 million shares at 35.50 per share. The company, which has about 39 million shares outstanding, said it will not receive proceeds.
Alcoholic beverage marketer Constellation Brands fell in heavy volume for the second session in a row. The stock closed 1.02 lower, at 29.50, in double normal trade. It pulled below its 30.17 buy point, which it cleared Tuesday.
