House panel backs trade accord
Lawmakers voted 24-11 in favor of the U.S.-Central American Free Trade Agreement, or CAFTA, which would remove trade barriers between the U.S., Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. The full Senate was expected to approve the pact. The full House is expected to vote on CAFTA when lawmakers return from a weeklong July 4 break.
