This is the story of James J. Braddock. Nice guy, born 1905, family man; takes up boxing, prospers, loses his touch; suffers in the Great Depression, breaks a hand, quits the ring; gets another chance, wins from nowhere, rises again, and winds up as Heavyweight Champion of the World; dies in 1974. It sounds like something out of a movie. To be precise, it sounds like something out of a Ron Howard movie, and that is what it has now become. "Cinderella Man" is a faithful recounting of the legend, starring Russell Crowe as Braddock, with Renee Zellweger as his faithful wife, Mae, and Paul Giamatti as his faithful coach, Joe Gould.
