New York guitarist Sheryl Bailey has been quietly establishing herself as one of the leading exponents of modern bebop guitar since the appearance of her self-released debut album in 1995 (Little Misunderstood, Sheryl Bailey 6990, CD). She is regularly compared to both Wes Montgomery and Jim Hall, but on her fourth album as a leader she reveals other influences as well, notably John Scofield (note her gritty, bluesy tone on "Swamp Thang") and perhaps even Bill Frisell (notice the way her notes trail off on the impressionistic "Two Brothers").
