A new attempt to ban junk-food ads aimed at children is to be made in Parliament and could persuade the Government to toughen its stance.
The Labour MP Mary Creagh, who has won a slot for a Private Member's Bill, will bring in a measure that would give the Government powers to outlaw press and poster ads and TV commercials before the 9pm watershed and include the internet and text messages in the crackdown.
The food and ad industries are already moving away from traditional media to get round restrictions but strong support from MPs is expected when Creagh's Children's Food Bill receives its second reading in October.
