Jul. 1--Local lighting and home appliance producers are close to collapsing because of an influx of lower-priced imported goods from China, which now enter Thailand under eased regulatory supervision imposed by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI).

Recently, the TISI loosened the procedures for imported lighting products by requiring only certification from either the International Organization for Standardiization (ISO) or the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) from distributors.
