Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), BASF, and Merck & Co. are among the winners of the this year's EPA Presidential Green Chemistry Awards. ADM received two awards in the industrial category: one for its Archer RC agricultural-based reactive coalescent used to produce latex paints with low-volatile organic compound (VOC) content; and an enzymatic interesterification process to make rats and oils that do not contain any trans fats. BASF was recognized for an ultraviolet (UV)-cured, low-VOC coating for automotive refinishing; and Merck & Co. for a route to the active ingredient in its emesis drug Emend that cuts raw material and water usage.
