Jun. 28--Plans to build a dentist's office usually draw little discussion from the city Plan Commission.
But a proposal to bring a little bit of New York City to Fort Wayne has been postponed for at least 30 days.
Besides the dentist's office and adjoining retail space, the 17,000-square-foot facility, to be called Empire Center, would feature a 55-foot model of New York's famed Empire State Building. The American flag on top would reach 70 feet high.
Hal Atkinson's dentist office at 9005 Lima Road, just north of Wallen Road, needs renovation. But to Atkinson, the typical office building seemed just too normal.
"The main thing is, if you drive up and down Lima Road, everything is plain and non-descript and boring," he said. "I thought something that showed a little imagination would be neat."
Imagination? Absolutely.
