ABB (http://www.abb.com), the leading power and automation technology group, has won a series of orders worth about $30 million to supply SVC (static var compensator) technology to boost the production of steelmakers in China, Iran, Italy, Russia, Spain, Taiwan and Turkey. The orders have been won in the first five months of 2005. As the number one supplier of SVC worldwide, ABB has more than 400 installations either in service or under construction. ABB's SVC technology was also on display at the international power distribution fair CIRED 2005, held from June 6-9 in Turin, Italy.
"This technology is in strong demand by steelmakers as they improve productivity to satisfy the booming worldwide demand for steel," says Michael Hirth, head of ABB's Power Technology Systems business area.
