NCTCOG request a 'litmus test' of agency's mission

Dallas Area Rapid Transit has been asked to contribute $8.5 million more for construction of car pool lanes on local freeways, in what some are calling a test of the regional transportation agency's long-term mission.

Planners at the North Central Texas Council of Governments made the request this month in an effort to shore up a $65 million plan for car pool lanes on most major Dallas freeways.

Michael Morris, director of transportation for the Council of Governments, called the request "a litmus test" on DART's commitment to transportation improvements beyond its pet project -- light rail.
