GCap Media is planning to launch its Manchester Xfm station with a concert in the city showcasing local bands, with Oasis and New Order among the groups being lined up.

The event will be the highlight of marketing activity timed to coincide with the station's launch in early 2006. The bill will feature up-and-coming acts as well as more established performers to reflect the city's rich indie music heritage.

Big names are being promised as headline acts. Morrissey, Happy Mondays, Doves, The Charlatans, Badly Drawn Boy and I Am Kloot are among the bands that may appear on the bill.
